TS wins major contract to provide high-tech logistics and repair services to NEC and its customers

TS Technology Services of Solihull, a Tyco International company and one of the industry’s leading providers of integrated service solutions for technology providers, has won a major new high-technology contract to provide NEC and its customers with high level support services covering NEC Mobile Networks Services Division’s advanced radio and fibre-optic transmission systems.

Under this long term contract, TS will provide full installation and support services including equipment supply and logistics scheduling, commissioning, help desk support services for new installations or upgrades as well as various levels of ‘swap and repair’ services for existing and new installations.

Products covered by the agreement include NEC’s advanced Pasolink Series of short and long-haul point-to-point microwave radio systems designed for a wide range of applications such as mobile backhaul, broadband network, enterprise systems, emergency networks, etc. It also covers both NEC’s Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) system capable of multiplexing up to 160 wavelengths of light on a single optical fibre, with data transmission capacity of 1.6 Terabits per second; and NEC’s SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) Microwave Radio Systems for high-quality SDH long-haul transmission.

The move has centralised NEC’s various radio & transmission service operations around the UK into a single highly efficient facility operated by TS in Solihull, significantly reducing spare part stocking levels and the transportation of parts around the country.  As a result NEC’s customers will benefit from faster and more efficient servicing and repairs resulting in reduced equipment downtime and more reliable operations.

“The appointment of TS gives our customers easier access to high level support services”, said Mark Simmonds, Head of Supply Chain operations for NEC Mobile Networking Services Division. “Many of our customers rely heavily on NEC’s radio and transmission systems as a key part of their operations and we are continually striving to provide improved response and service levels to minimise repair time and downtime and cut costs. The appointment of TS Technology Services is a key part of that strategy”.

According to Paul Watson, Business Development Executive for TS Technology Services, “With a single call to our central UK service facility in Solihull, NEC’s customers have access to repair services with response times as fast as 4 hours depending on requirements. We are working in close partnership with NEC to help meet their customers’ service level expectations as efficiently and effectively as possible.”

Previously many NEC parts had to be returned to Japan for specialised repair but with TS’s high-tech capability here in Solihull, most parts can now be repaired locally, greatly reducing transportation costs and speeding up repair times. According to TS Technology Services’ MD Kevin Scott-Cowell, more and more major technology companies are turning to specialised service providers such as TS to streamline their service and logistics operations. “Our client list already includes many well know technology providers and we are pleased to add NEC’s Mobile Networks Services division” he said.
